home goals: January & February

house projects
One of my goals for 2012 was to continue to work on our home. I even tried setting "12 in 2012," twelve goals that we could accomplish a month at a time. Well...that didn't happen. I don't even think I shared my wishes past goal five or six. We've stalled...a LOT...in terms of home improvements. My first year as a stay-at-home mom wasn't that much of a change to our budget because we had a nice little savings to work from. That quickly diminished by year two and I threw in the towel, telling myself, "we can't do anything else on the house until I'm back to work and we have a second income."
um, no
Our house doesn't have to wait until all the stars align for me to go back to work and bring in extra "home improvement" money. Things can be done now, with the resources we've got at the moment. It's going to involve a little creativity, and probably a little extra elbow grease, but daggone it
I'M GOING TO IMPROVE MY HOME!
Since I'm just now sharing this, a month late (go figure),
I've decided to combine my January & February goals.
I've decided to combine my January & February goals.
1.) add more pops of turquoise to my kitchen
Here's some of my inspiration from Pinterest.

I just love red and turquoise together.
2.) work on some winter decor
I LOVE decorating for Christmas, but it seems like the rest of the year my house is in a constant state of "blah." I'm over seeing the same mantle decor from January - November. It's time for a change! Now I won't be going all out with decorations for every little holiday; remember, I'm working on a tiiiiight budget. However I know I can change things up with the resources I've got around the house.
3.) give the downstairs bathroom a new look
isn't that curtain lovely? so drapey and pretty
...or not
The bathrooms in our 1950's home are small. and old. and cracking and grimy and kinda gross. One of my top priorities for Happy Hill is to renovate our bathrooms, or at least do what renovations we can on a meager budget. In the downstairs bath I want to paint, add some DIY window treatments, and maybe even do a little decorating. (Do people decorate their bathrooms?!) I'm most excited for this challenge.

I'll be back at the end of the month with a little update to let you know how well I did with my January/February home goals! I can't wait to make some fun updates! :)

Love your goals! And yes people decorate bathrooms! I say we have a shopping day! :) And I'm with you on the post-Christmas decor!!
We have the same black and white 1950s bathroom. I think you can do a lot with paint and curtains. We also added a floating shelf and decorated it with glass jars for our cotton balls and Qtips.
We just redid our hall bath (new shower curtain, rugs, towels) and I LOVE it so much!! Now just looking for some wall art. You can totally decorate a bathroom.
